As an artist with a deep background in the Senia Maihar Gharana based in New York City, Anupam Shobhakar has undergone rigorous training under the guidance of Shree Suresh Vyas, a senior disciple of the esteemed Annapurna Devi, and Ustad Aashish Khan. Over the years, He has had the privilege of showcasing his talents worldwide, thereby accumulating valuable experience, and cultivating a diverse musical repertoire.
Having performed globally on the Sarod for many years, Anupam decided to embark on a new musical journey developing a comprehensive Indian Classical repertoire on the Fretless Guitar. This endeavor aims to expand the musical horizons of the instrument, enabling it to adeptly handle the nuances of Hindustani Classical Music from both a Dhrupad and a Khayal perspective.
Borrowing from his extensive background of the techniques imbibed on the Sarod from older indian instruments like Sur Singaar, Sur Bahar, Rudra Veena and even incorporating vocalisms of the ubiquitous and haunting Indian Sarangi,
Anupam aims to expand the scope of the fretless guitar and bring it into the revered family of classical Indian instruments, Firmly rooted in pedagogical tradition.
Over the past year, He has passionately performed on this exciting new instrument, and the reception has been overwhelmingly positive.
